CHANHASSEN PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY

The City of Chanhassen, MN embarked on a public works project with an initial focus on repurposing an existing building in the vicinity for their needs. After analyzing several options, it became evident that the local office/warehouse buildings could not adequately address the unique challenges faced by the department. Additionally, the existing public works building, situated on a prime development site, prompted the staff and design team to envision a new building on an adjacent city-owned property.

The design of the new building was thoughtfully crafted to cater to the public works department's current and future requirements. Special attention was given to minimizing any adverse effects on the surrounding wetlands, ensuring environmental preservation. The outcome is a cutting-edge public works department seamlessly integrated into a mature, fully-developed natural landscape.

Employing a construction manager approach proved beneficial for the project. This approach allowed the staff to itemize and prioritize their needs carefully, ensuring efficient decision-making throughout the entire process. Moreover, the competitive bidding climate further contributed to the project's success, enabling the building to be completed well below budget and on schedule. The City of Chanhassen now proudly boasts a state-of-the-art public works facility, tailored to its specific requirements and harmoniously complementing its natural surroundings.
