MAPLE GROVE PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY

The Maple Grove Public Works Facility is a versatile, highly functional space designed to meet various operational needs. In addition to the salt storage building, fueling island, stormwater retention pond, and bulk material storage and staging areas typical of public works facilities, the site also includes ample vehicle parking, state-of-the-art vehicle maintenance areas, and a well-equipped service area. The multi-purpose office space is designed for flexibility, supporting daily administrative functions, staff gatherings, and after-hours civic activities such as voting and community meetings.

The facility showcases the use of innovative and cost-effective materials to enhance both aesthetic appeal and functionality. For example, Gabion baskets are used as wall cladding, giving the exterior a distinctive 3-dimensional texture with a striking stone-and-metal appearance. To further improve sustainability and reduce operational costs, daylighting is used throughout the building, minimizing the need for artificial lighting and lowering electricity usage.

Additionally, the design process included a detailed building space needs assessment, which takes into account not only the current size of the department but also future growth projections. With the city expected to expand significantly over the next 20 to 30 years, the facility has been planned to accommodate both present and long-term needs, ensuring its relevance and functionality well into the future.
