BECKER COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY

The Becker County Public Works facility is a 52,000-square-foot complex designed to accommodate a wide range of essential operations. It includes office and administration areas, locker rooms, and dedicated spaces for vehicle storage and maintenance. The facility also features specialized areas for parts and tool storage, a welding and fabrication workshop, a small engine repair shop, and a wash bay, ensuring that all aspects of public works maintenance and administration are efficiently managed under one roof.

This project involved programming, planning, site selection, and master planning for the Becker County Highway Department facility. The existing facility was evaluated but deemed insufficient for current and future needs. Oertel Architects was also hired by the City of Detroit Lakes Public Works to assess their similar requirements.

Both Becker County and Detroit Lakes initially considered individual sites but ultimately opted for a shared site to gain economic benefits. The result was a shared site with separate buildings, supported by comprehensive reports, including master plans, site plans, and cost estimates.
