ROBBINSDALE WATER TREATMENT FACILITY
The Robbinsdale Water Treatment Facility is a key project in the city’s efforts to modernize and enhance its water infrastructure, ensuring that the growing community has access to clean, treated water for decades to come. This comprehensive update includes the construction of a new consolidated water treatment plant, the refurbishment and replacement of well houses, and the installation of a new water tower to replace two aging towers. These improvements will significantly increase the city's capacity to treat and distribute water while modernizing outdated systems.
A standout feature of this project is the introduction of lime softening, a process that removes minerals such as calcium and magnesium from the water supply. This method not only improves the quality of drinking water but also helps to extend the lifespan of household appliances and plumbing by reducing mineral buildup. Notably, this facility is the first water treatment plant in the Twin Cities metro area to incorporate lime softening technology, making it a pioneering project in the region’s approach to water treatment.
The new facility is approximately 33,630 square feet and is designed to process between 2,000 to 3,000 gallons of water per minute, greatly increasing the city's water treatment capacity. The design and layout of the facility prioritize both operational efficiency and future scalability, allowing Robbinsdale to meet the demands of its growing population while also planning for future water infrastructure needs.
The project was completed in November 2022, marking a major milestone in Robbinsdale’s water infrastructure modernization efforts. By investing in state-of-the-art water treatment technologies and infrastructure, the city is setting a new standard for water quality and sustainability in the metro area. This facility represents a forward-thinking approach to urban water management, incorporating cutting-edge treatment methods and planning for future growth while maintaining a commitment to environmental responsibility and public health.
